Boards

This afternoon I am printing my boards for the projects i have done before Easter. I'm not going to do any for my prospects.ac.uk project though because it was a complete abortion and doesn't deserve to have them.

crit

Todays crit was really helpful for me because i knew i didn't have my deliverables clarified, and this was clear to everyone else. Also colour is not my forte and I knew this had to be sorted and I had to put up the animals that i had done on white, because the ones i did on colour didn't come out right. this was a bad move because it looked gross and I am under strict orders not to put anything on white now. I need to play around with the colours and I think I'll try and make it as minimal as possible, using the burnt red and turquoise as the main colours, but possibly adding in the others.

Here are some scruffy sketches of what my deliverables are now. Its promotional items for the opening of the attraction. There are five little leaflet/voucher things which have an animal on each and will be in their own colour(s). They will represent an area of the exhibition and they will say things like 'Sammy the Snake will guide you through the reptiles of the Amazon' etc. and then the colour of that section in the attraction will be the same as that leaflets. They will also include a tear-off voucher for free entry on the opening night. I will also do a flyer just to change the format.
I am also going to do a poster (A1) and a banner/ proposal for hoarding panels which will advertise the opening. This will allow me to see what the logo looks like when its pretty big and see how i can make everything look like it ties together. I will also do other things if i have time like bookmarks, a notepad, gift tags etc.
I am basically applying all the stuff I've got to different formats.

slightly better

I've done some backgrounds to go with the animals and ive used one colour on each but 4 different tints. I don't really get whether you can print tints properly digitally , but i think i am going to screen print these at half scale or less because i can just add white to the ink each time and also because i like the way it looks overlapped like on the bottom picture. Something will go wrong but i hope its not both. In the crit tomorrow I want to know how i can put all this stuff in context because its not obvious what its for or anything.

To do list

Here is a list of things I need to do before 5th June:

•Do the animals better
•Decide on which logo and put into some context
•Letterheads/business cards?
•Make animals better
•Draw backgrounds and sort out colours
•Design poster
•Design banner
•Booked into print - Thursday 28th May 3pm (6 A2s)
- Tuesday 2nd June 10am (2 A1s)

Oh dear

oh deary me my work looks gross and i don't know how to make it look not gross. i think i have decided on a final logo which is one of these depending on whether i think it should be one or two colour. My animals look weird, i quite liked the pen drawings but now in colour they look horrible so i think I'll have to think of a different way of colouring them. I might do some backgrounds to go with each animal , and change the number of colours that I'm using e.g. mantis will be lots of tints of the same green, fish lots of tints of the same blue etc. Also I need to think about what I'm going to do with them to show them in a bit more context e.g. they will be on square panels, with the logo, and possibly the name of the animal in my own font/a complementary font to the logo? I think all of this will be good practice because I think I have some freelance work for when I finish, to do interpretive boards and an eye spy pack for a new nature reserve in my town, so i gotta get this animal drawing up to scratch.

tutorial

Today I had a tutorial with Justin about The River project. He suggested that I try making my logos look less static and rigid with some sort of swoosh or hint of river/water which I agree with. Also I need to add more colours to my palette because at the moment ive only got browns and yellows but if i had a blue/turqoise/pink i can use these on the animals to make them more striking. also he suggested i should do a poster as if it was the launch, using the identity, animals and colours which will be nice and will give everything more context. I said i was worried about how i would present them at the end because the exhibition doesnt exist yet to take photos of and he said to print the animals large as if they were the panels and have the identity on them too in the corner or something.
Here are the animals which i drew today. I want to maybe include some african/south american patterns onto them when i colour them later.
